The 27 Amendments
- People can practice whatever religion, write, say and petition whatever they want and not be arrested for doing it. (Violating: A person told they can't go to church because of the religion.)
- People can legally purchase and own weapons at a legal age. (Violating: You are arrested for own a gun)
- The government cannot force you to to let troops stay in your house without you saying it's okay. (Violating: The military forces you to the its troops stay in your house even after you tell them no.)
- The police can't search you or your house unless they have a warrant to do so.
- You cannot be tried twice for the same crime. (Violating: You are tried twice for one crime.)
- You have the right to a fair trial with a fair jury, the right to an attorney and are able to see the witnesses. (Violating: You are told you can't have an attorney for your upcoming trial.)
- You have the right to a jury trial (Violating: You aren't allowed to have a jury at your upcoming trial.)
- Cruel and unusual punishments as well as extremely expensive bails are not allowed. (Violating: You see a man be beat to death as his punishment in prison.)
- There are other rights you have that cannot be violated
- Power not given to the government is given to states and the people
- States can’t be sued by people from other states or countries.
- Clarifies how presidents and vice presidents are elected.
- People can’t be forced to become slaves (Violating: You force someone to do unpaid labor for you and chain them up after.)
- Shows how people are tried.
- You can’t be denied the right to vote based on your color. (Violating: A man is told he can't vote because he is black)
- The government is able to collect income tax
- People are able to elect their senators
- People cannot buy, make or drink alcohol
- Women are able to vote (Woman is allowed to vote.)
- States when the president’s term begins and ends
- Repeals the 18th amendment.
- President can only serve two terms (Violating: President is elected for a third term.)
- People in Washington DC can vote in the electoral college
- The government change charge poll taxes
- States the line of succession if the president dies
- You can’t be denied the right to vote if you are 18 or older
- Congress members can’t gain more money on their salary until the beginning of their next term.
