Popular Sovereignty: The government is for the benefit of the people not for the people for run the government.
Federalism: A type of government where the power is shared by the states and the national government.
Separation of Powers: Power and responsibilities are shared between different branches of government.
Checks and Balances: Each branch must keep each other functioning correctly.
Judicial Review: A court is able to decide whether a law is constitutional or not.
Limited Government: A type of government where the government only gets the power that the people let it have.
Elastic Clause: Congress is able to make whatever laws it needs to, to carry out its own given powers.
Supremacy Clause: A federal law can overrule any state law.
Writ of Habeas Corpus: A person who is under arrest must be brought to court.
Ex Post Facto: The legal consequences can be changed if it becomes legal after it illegal when it happened. This is not allowed by the Constitution.
Due Process: Person is given fair treatment through a normal court system.
Expressed Powers: Powers that are given to the government.
Implied Powers: Powers that are given to Congress that aren’t said in the constitution but are required to be given to them to run the government properly.
Extradition: If a criminal is found outside of the country they are a criminal in they must be given back by the country they are found in to be tried.
